Dogs by Famous Artists

Dogs by Famous Artists

I have been around art ever since I was a puppy. This is because Mimi is an artist. One of my favorite pawsessions is a portrait that she painted of me.

Here it is:

Mimi painted this of me.

Mimi also painted this of our cat:

This is Hazuzu in the garden.

Mimi’s paintings are not famous like the ones I am about to show you. I just want you to know that this dog has a backgrround in art.

Henri Matisse

The first painting is by the grrrreat French artist, Matisse. Mimi loves Matisse because his work is full of bright, positive energy without being the least bit sentimental. This pawticular painting is called Interior with a Dog.

Matisse loved color. He also loved dogs.

Sandro Botticelli

The next painting is amazing. It is by Sandro Botticelli, and is in the Sistine Chapel in Rome. It was painted between 1480 and 1482, and it shows a boy carrying a little dog that looks like a Chihuahua.  He must love that dog because he has him in a special dog carrier.

This is a detail from a much larger work.

Philippe Auguste Renoir

This is a woofy painting by Renoir. It is called Madame Renoir with a Dog. I like it because it shows the artist’s wife with their family dog.

Nothing like sitting together in the grass.

Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso often experimented with line drawings. He managed to draw a stylish  daschund with only one line:

Picasso’s line drawings are brilliant.

John Everett Millais

John Everett Millais was a Pre Raphaelite painter.  This pawticular work is called Effie Deans. It was painted in 1877. The dog looks like a friendly one, don’t you think?

Keith Haring

Keith Haring is a contemporary artist, well known for his modern dog paintings.  Are these dogs barking at each other? It’s hard to say.
